A Brief Review

After reading a fantasy trilogy, I went back to science fiction. Subgenre, military. A classic, Starship Troopers, by Robert Heinlein.

This is the second book I read by this author, and while I can understand why he won so many awards, I’m not really a fan.

This military sci-fi, of which I didn’t watch the movie, starts majestically even for someone like me who doesn’t read a lot of military sci-fi. The first 3/4 of the book are great, and I devoured them. After that, I skipped a few pages every once in a while. It was so slow and boring that I couldn’t handle it as a whole.

Now I understand some people may think that I lost all my marbles for critiquing one of the fathers of my favourite genres, but I’ve never claimed to be sane. There are stories for all tastes. Evidently, Heinlein’s aren’t for me.

Anyway, if you like military sci-fi and haven’t read this book, you definitely should.

I purchased it a couple of months back through a BookBub deal at 0.99, but it’s probably available at most libraries if you’re into paper.

The next book on my TBR list is Shadows Beneath: The Writing Excuses Anthology by Brandon Sanderson. I’ve already started it.
